Katavi National Park
Untamed Wilderness, Unparalleled Adventure
Overview
Katavi National Park is one of Tanzania’s last truly wild safari destinations, offering an unspoiled and remote wilderness experience far from the crowds. Located in the western part of the country, this hidden gem covers approximately 4,471 square kilometers, making it Tanzania’s third-largest national park. Despite its vastness, Katavi remains one of the least-visited parks, ensuring an exclusive and authentic safari for those who venture here.
It is famous for its dramatic landscapes, ranging from golden floodplains and seasonal lakes to dense woodlands and winding rivers. During the dry season, the Katuma River and its shrinking pools become the lifeline for thousands of animals, creating spectacular concentrations of wildlife. Massive herds of buffalo—sometimes numbering in the thousands—roam freely, while elephants, zebras, giraffes, and antelopes gather in incredible numbers. The park is also known for its high density of hippos and crocodiles, often seen competing for space in the remaining waterholes.
Predators thrive in this untamed wilderness, with large prides of lions, stealthy leopards, and elusive wild dogs patrolling the plains. With so few visitors, game drives in Katavi feel like private safaris, allowing you to witness Africa’s raw beauty in its most natural and untouched state.
